Lula, the Son of Brazil

(2010)Directed by Marcelo Santiago, Fábio Barreto130 minDrama, History
“Family man. Militant. Hero. Convict. Savior. Romantic. Legend.”

Dona Lindu (Glória Pires) takes her children and leaves the Brazilian interior for the financial capital, where her young son Lula (Rui Ricardo Diaz) has to start earning almost at once. The film follows him from that move through the working-class years that made him one of the best-known politicians in Brazilian history. Fábio Barreto, with Marcelo Santiago, tells it as a plain biography, drawn from a true story and built around the people who raised him.
