“Between a mother and son. Between the delicate boundaries of love.”

Italy, 1979: Caterina Silveri (Jill Clayburgh), an American opera singer, has just been widowed and brings her 15-year-old son Joe (Matthew Barry) along on her tour. Bernardo Bertolucci follows the two of them through the opera houses and rented rooms, as Joe's heroin addiction takes hold. Caterina, grieving and singing every night, tries to reach her son by crossing a line no mother should.
