A young woman has vanished in London, and police believe a killer is choosing his victims through the personal ads. Sandra Carpenter (Lucille Ball), a dancer and the missing woman's friend, agrees to help investigator Harley Temple (Charles Coburn) by answering those ads herself. Douglas Sirk keeps George Sanders and Boris Karloff in the frame, and Ball keeps her eyes on the door.
