At a toy company, Gemma (Allison Williams) builds M3GAN, a life-like doll with artificial intelligence, and then suddenly has her orphaned niece Cady (Violet McGraw) to care for. She gives the girl the doll, which is programmed to bond with its owner. Gerard Johnstone follows the two as their attachment tightens, and Gemma begins to see that M3GAN takes her one job very seriously.
