“Beaten, branded, brutalized, but never broken.”

Daniel Morgan (Dennis Hopper) is an Irish outlaw in 1850s Australia, hunted across the colony with a price on him, dead or alive. Detective Manwaring (Jack Thompson) works the trail from one side, while the Aboriginal man Billy (David Gulpilil) ends up riding beside him on the other. Philippe Mora lets the friendship between the two grow in the long stretches between the shootings.
