Alex (Ben Stiller), Marty (Chris Rock), Melman (David Schwimmer), and Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) are on the run across Europe, chased by animal control officer Captain Chantel DuBois (Frances McDormand). They hide out with a traveling circus and have to learn to perform. Darnell and McGrath build the film around a cascade of set pieces and character riffs, letting the four animals' voices overlap and bounce off one another in controlled chaos.
