“Still together, still lost.”

How does a lion from Central Park end up in a wrecked airplane held together by penguins? The zoo animals Alex (Ben Stiller), Marty (Chris Rock), Melman (David Schwimmer) and Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) leave Madagascar that way, sputtering toward Africa and meeting others of their own kind. Directors Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath keep Alex and Marty side by side through it, two old friends from the same zoo who now have to share an unfamiliar place.
