Madame Bovary
Emma Bovary (Valentine Tessier) is the wife of a country doctor in 19th-century France, and the quiet of her provincial life has become more than she can stand. Her husband Charles (Pierre Renoir) is kind and ordinary, and Jean Renoir adapts Flaubert's novel with the town's pharmacist, Homais (Max Dearly), watching from his shop. Emma goes looking for a way out through other men and spending she cannot afford, and the cost builds slowly.
