Made in Abyss: Journey's Dawn

Riko (Miyu Tomita) climbs down into the Abyss, a vast pit that swallows everyone who goes in, with Reg (Mariya Ise), the robot companion she found, at her side. In the second layer they meet Ozen, the White Whistle, who has information about Riko's mother. Masayuki Kojima draws the descent in soft, storybook colors and then lets the dread arrive anyway.
