Mahler

(1974)Directed by Ken Russell115 minDrama, Music
“An electrifying visual odyssey into musical madness and savage romance.”

Gustav Mahler (Robert Powell) is on a train, and the journey sets his memories moving: the deaths in his family, the strain of his marriage to Alma (Georgina Hale). Ken Russell cuts between the carriage and the scenes Mahler cannot stop seeing, his father Bernhard (Lee Montague) and his mother Marie (Rosalie Crutchley) among them. Through the window the countryside slides past, and Mahler sits with it.
