Major Barbara

Major Barbara Undershaft (Wendy Hiller) is a young woman of conviction who has joined the Salvation Army to get away from her father, Andrew Undershaft (Robert Morley), a rich manufacturer of weapons. Adolphus Cusins (Rex Harrison), a professor turned preacher, courts her while she works in the shelter and tends to its poor. Gabriel Pascal adapts George Bernard Shaw's play, and he lets the stage dialogue carry the film, with David Lean editing.
