Malena

“Too young to be a widow, too beautiful to be alone.”

One woman crosses the town square and every man stops, every wife turns to look. That is how twelve-year-old Renato (Giuseppe Sulfaro) first sees Malèna Scordia (Monica Bellucci), on the day Italy enters the Second World War and the day he gets his bicycle. Giuseppe Tornatore follows his small figure on that bike, circling, always a few streets behind her, while her husband is presumed dead and she walks the town alone.
