Mandabi
In Dakar in 1968, Ibrahim Dieng (Makhouredia Gueye) has two wives, a houseful of dependents, and no work. A money order arrives from a nephew in Paris, and the family's neighbors, creditors and relatives start treating Ibrahim as a rich man. Ousmane Sembène shot it in Wolof, the first African-language feature, and Ibrahim cannot cash a single franc without papers he does not have.
