Mandingo

(1975)Directed by Richard Fleischer127 min · RRomance, Drama, History
“Expect The Savage. The Sensual. The Shocking. The Sad. The Powerful. The Shameful. Expect The Truth.”

Warren Maxwell (James Mason) owns a run-down plantation and wants an heir to leave it to, so he presses his son Hammond (Perry King) to marry. Hammond picks his cousin Blanche (Susan George), then comes home from the honeymoon with a slave he has bought for himself, and Warren gets a Mandingo named Mede (Ken Norton) to breed and train as a fighter. Richard Fleischer shoots the big house in grainy, sun-worn colors, the windows open to the heat.
