Who is the man behind Citizen Kane, and why did he have only sixty days to write it? Herman Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman) is a sharp-tongued screenwriter and a drinker, laid up in a desert cabin in 1940 with a broken leg and a typist, Rita Alexander (Lily Collins). David Fincher cuts between that bedroom and the Hollywood Herman knew, and the script gets finished at whatever cost to him.
