“The Romance of a Shopgirl's Millions”

Jessie Cassidy (Joan Crawford) grows up in a crowded working-class home and wants a life that costs her less. She marries her boyfriend Eddie Miller (Alan Curtis) to get it, then finds he is no better than the life she left. Soon she meets John Hennessey (Spencer Tracy), a self-made millionaire with money troubles of his own, and Frank Borzage keeps the camera close on Crawford's face.
