Manon of the Spring

In the Provençal hills, years after Jean de Florette's death, his daughter Manon (Emmanuelle Béart) has grown into a shepherdess who keeps to the high pastures and her goats. The land that was her father's now belongs to Ugolin (Daniel Auteuil) and his uncle César (Yves Montand), the two men who schemed to get it. Claude Berri lets the dry slopes burn pale gold, and Manon watches the men below with a patience that has already settled on what she means to do.
