In Mardock City, Rune Balot (Megumi Hayashibara) is a teenage prostitute with nothing to her name until Shell Septinos (Kazuya Nakai), a casino manager, picks her up and gives her a new life and a past to go with it. Susumu Kudo follows her gratitude as it turns into suspicion over why a man would spend so much on her, and she looks up his history on a computer. The film is about what it costs to learn the truth about the person who saved you.
