Marie Antoinette

(1938)Directed by W.S. Van Dyke149 minDrama, History
“A Queen... but, first of all... a woman in love!”

Marie Antoinette (Norma Shearer) is an Austrian princess sent to France to marry the future Louis XVI (Robert Morley), a match made to settle things between two rival countries. At Versailles she takes to the flirtations and spending, and W.S. Van Dyke gives her every gown and ballroom to enjoy. Once her husband is crowned, the people of France have never forgiven her for being Austrian, and every extravagance is added to the account.
