Mary, Queen of Scots

“MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS, who ruled with the heart of a woman.”

Mary Stuart (Vanessa Redgrave) was named Queen of Scotland at six days old and is the last Catholic ruler the country will have. At 23 she is held prisoner by her cousin Elizabeth (Glenda Jackson), the English queen and her sharpest rival, and the film sets the two women's opposite natures side by side. Charles Jarrott directs it as a period drama of two thrones, with Redgrave and Jackson carrying nearly every scene between them.
