Chris Wilton (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), a former tennis player, marries into a London family with money and position. He begins an affair with Nola Rice (Scarlett Johansson), his brother-in-law's girlfriend, and the affair threatens to expose him as the climber he is. Allen tightens the tension as Chris tries to contain the damage, and everything he has gained becomes his wealth and standing that he could lose.
