Matinee

(1993)Directed by Joe Dante99 min · PGComedy
“Lawrence Woolsey presents the end of civilization as we know it. Make that... Proudly Presents!”

Gene Loomis (Simon Fenton) is a movie-mad kid in a small coastal town, and it's October 1962, with the Cuban Missile Crisis on every television. Into his town rolls Lawrence Woolsey (John Goodman), a showman who sells horror pictures with rubber-suited actors and a stage full of props, and who sees an easy audience in the scared. Joe Dante, a B-movie fan himself, films the whole thing as a salute to the cheap thrills of the matinee.
