“Art + Politics = Power”
Max Rothman (John Cusack), a Jewish art dealer in Munich in 1918, wants to bring modern art back to a country still reeling from the war. He takes an interest in a young Austrian painter, Adolf Hitler (Noah Taylor), who drifts between the canvas and the political talk of the beer halls. Menno Meyjes makes his directing debut with a story of two men who talk, and Max keeps believing he can steer the younger man toward art.
