Max Dugan Returns

A stranger turns up at the door of Nora McPhae (Marsha Mason), an English teacher raising her teenage son Michael (Matthew Broderick) on a single paycheck. He is Max Dugan (Jason Robards), the father who walked out when she was a child, and he wants back into her house. Herbert Ross, working from a Neil Simon script, plays out the awkward first days between a daughter who stopped expecting him and a man asking to be let in.
