Max My Love
“A love triangle of primate proportion.”
Margaret (Charlotte Rampling), the wife of a British diplomat in Paris, wants a lover her marriage to Peter (Anthony Higgins) no longer supplies, and she finds him in a chimpanzee. Nagisa Ōshima, working from a screenplay he wrote with Jean-Claude Carrière, plays the affair at the same level tone as a dinner party. The film is about how much a well-off household will tolerate so long as nobody says it out loud.
