May Fools

(1990)Directed by Louis Malle107 minComedy, Drama

Nobody in the family can bury Madame Vieuzac (Paulette Dubost), because the strikes of May 1968 have stopped the funeral services across France. Her son Milou (Michel Piccoli) stays at the country house while relatives arrive to argue over the inheritance, and Louis Malle gives each of them a different idea of what the country is becoming. Milou drifts through the rooms of the estate, the summer light on the garden outside, the dead woman still upstairs.
