Gabriel Dahan (Roman Kolinka), a 30-year-old French war reporter, comes out of months held hostage in Syria and does not go home. He goes to India instead, and the film never says what he is looking for there. Mia Hansen-Løve follows him through the slow weeks after, and the man who left Syria walks around with a captivity he can't put down.
