Richard Swersey (John Hawkes), a separated shoe salesman, meets Christine Jesperson (Miranda July), a video artist who drives an elderly client around in a cab. They try to start a romance, both awkward and both guarded. At home his sons, Peter (Miles Thompson) and Robby (Brandon Ratcliff), fumble toward the opposite sex in their own clumsy ways, and July's film suggests that everyone, whatever their age, is reaching for someone else's attention.
