Louisa Clark (Emilia Clarke) takes a caregiver job in a grand English house, tending to Will Traynor (Sam Claflin), a wealthy man paralyzed after a motorcycle accident two years prior. She finds him shuttered and bitter, resistant to her cheerfulness, until gradually they fall in love. Thea Sharrock frames them in that house's rooms and gardens, where Lou sits beside him in the pale afternoon light, knowing what he has already chosen.
