Medea

“She sacrifices something she loves, to harm someone who perhaps she loves even more.”

Medea (Kirsten Olesen) wants her place beside Jason (Udo Kier) back, the man she helped win his way and bore two children for. Jason has chosen to marry Glauce, daughter of King Kreon (Henning Jensen), and become heir to the throne. Lars von Trier moves this Euripides story, by way of Dreyer's script, out of the Mediterranean and into a vague Iron Age Denmark.
