Mediterraneo

(1991)Directed by Gabriele Salvatores96 minComedy, Romance, War
“On a magical Greek island a soldier is about to discover that it is better to make love instead of war”

Sgt. Nicola Lo Russo (Diego Abatantuono) is put ashore on a small Greek island in World War II with a handful of Italian soldiers, one of them Lt. Raffaele Montini (Claudio Bigagli). Their orders are to watch for enemy ships, but the village is empty and no enemy shows up, and then their own ship is destroyed. Gabriele Salvatores lets the war drift off while the men are left to the sun and to the question of what a soldier is for once nobody is fighting.
