A big house in St. Louis, a family of five, and a year that begins in the summer of 1903 and runs toward the opening of the 1904 World's Fair. Esther (Judy Garland) and her sisters, along with little 'Tootie' (Margaret O'Brien), move through each season under the eye of their mother Anna (Mary Astor). Vincente Minnelli shoots it in Technicolor, so the Smith house stays bright in every season.
