Melinda and Melinda

“Life can be a comedy or a tragedy, it all depends on how you look at it.”

Over dinner with friends, Sy wants to prove that comedy and tragedy are hard to pull apart, so he tells two stories about the same woman. In both, Melinda (Radha Mitchell) is recovering from a divorce and leaning on drink, and she falls for the husband of a close friend. Woody Allen sets both versions in Manhattan and lets one trade in jokes and the other in grief, with the same facts under each.
