Melvin and Howard

(1980)Directed by Jonathan Demme95 min · RComedy, Drama
“Poor Melvin. All he wanted was to be Milkman of the Month. Instead, he lost his job, his truck, and his wife. Then Howard Hughes left him $156,000,000.”

In Utah around 1980, Melvin Dummar (Paul Le Mat) pumps gas at a service station and chases the next small payday, while his wife Lynda (Mary Steenburgen) and their daughter Darcy (Elizabeth Cheshire) live on whatever he brings home. Jonathan Demme follows a man whose name ends up on a will said to be handwritten by Howard Hughes (Jason Robards). The will lists a fortune of $156 million, and Melvin keeps hoping it is real.
