Memoirs of a Geisha

“A story like mine has never been told.”

A young girl named Chiyo (Suzuka Ohgo) is sold by her impoverished family to a geisha house in Kyoto, where she will train under a new name, Sayuri (Zhang Ziyi). There she encounters Hatsumomo (Gong Li), a geisha who resents her, and Mameha (Michelle Yeoh), who becomes her mentor and guide. Rob Marshall traces Sayuri's passage from servitude toward her own small sovereignty, painted in silk and shadow, as she learns the cost of beauty and survival.
