“Protecting the Earth from the scum of the universe.”

A New York cop (Will Smith) chases a suspect who turns out not to be human, and the strangest part of his night is who comes asking about it afterward. Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) recruits him into a secret organization that polices the aliens living on Earth, and the two are soon tracking a terrorist sent to assassinate two ambassadors. Barry Sonnenfeld keeps the pace quick and the comedy deadpan, and lets the jokes land in the pauses.
