Dr. Fuentes (Federico Luppi), a medical professor close to retirement, wants to find the young doctors he once trained and see the work they went out to do. He sets off to reach them, and John Sayles follows his journey with the plain patience of a documentary. Fuentes meets Domingo (Damián Delgado), a soldier, and Padre Portillo (Damián Alcázar), and the more he learns about his old students, the less certain he is of what he taught them.
