Merrily We Go to Hell

(1932)Directed by Dorothy Arzner83 minComedy, Drama, Romance
“In her innocence she expected days and nights of tender love. What she got was a Bitter Shock!”

Nobody can explain why Joan Prentice (Sylvia Sidney), an heiress with every door open to her, ties her life to a newspaperman who is drunk most of the time. Dorothy Arzner follows Jerry Corbett (Fredric March) as Joan's love sobers him enough to write a play, before the drinking comes back. Joan keeps showing up for him anyway, trusting a man whose promises hold only until the next glass.
