“He's an angel... Not a saint.”

Michael (John Travolta) is an archangel who has been living on Earth long enough to pick up bad habits, and he is crude and rumpled but plainly warm-hearted. Three tabloid reporters, including Frank Quinlan (William Hurt) and Dorothy Winters (Andie MacDowell), drive out to a house after a letter claims an angel is staying there. Ephron gives him a few earthly jobs to finish, and Michael goes about them like a man who has nowhere else to be.
