Middle of Nowhere

“Love can lead us where we least expect.”

Ruby (Emayatzy Corinealdi) is a medical student who leaves school the day her husband Derek is sentenced to eight years in prison. She takes a job as a nurse and spends her weeks planning around visiting hours, long bus rides, and the short stretches of time he is allowed to talk. Ava DuVernay, who won the directing prize at Sundance for it, keeps the film on Ruby as the life she set aside begins to look different to her.
