Midnight's Children

“A child and country were born at midnight once upon a time.”

Saleem Sinai (Satya Bhabha) is born at the exact moment India becomes independent, and his life is tied to the country's from the first breath. Deepa Mehta adapts Salman Rushdie's novel, with Rushdie writing the screenplay, following Saleem and the other children born that midnight as they grow up in a nation unlike their parents' world. Saleem carries all of it with him, a boy who cannot separate his own story from India's.
