Nobody in American hockey can say why the 1980 Olympic team should be handed to Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell), a college coach with a brash style. Gavin O'Connor follows him as he gathers hot-headed college all-stars, then drives them hard after an early humiliation, pointing them at the heavily favored Soviets. Brooks asks for everything from his players and from himself, and his wife Patty (Patricia Clarkson) watches what it takes from him.
