Miss Evers' Boys

(1997)Directed by Joseph Sargent118 min · PGDrama, History, TV Movie
“A Government Lie. A Woman's Secret. A Story That Must Be Told.”

In 1932, a government health program arrives among the poor Black sharecroppers of rural Alabama, offering free examinations to men with syphilis. Eunice Evers (Alfre Woodard), a nurse they already trust, becomes the one who tells them what the doctors want them to hear, including Caleb Humphries (Laurence Fishburne). Joseph Sargent adapts the stage play about the Tuskegee study, and its subject is how a lie holds when the people telling it believe they are helping.
