Miss Juneteenth

Why does a woman who won the Miss Juneteenth crown years ago keep working two jobs and still push her daughter toward the same stage? Channing Godfrey Peoples sets the pageant fee against Turquoise's wages, and every dollar she spends on it is one she cannot spare.
