Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is a secret agent disavowed by his own government and left to operate without backup. His only allies are Jane (Paula Patton), Benji (Simon Pegg), and Brandt (Jeremy Renner), a team just as cut off as he is. Brad Bird sends them across continents in pursuit of a nuclear threat, each move improvised, until Hunt scales the outside of the Burj Khalifa in the dark, suspended in nothing.
