A virus designed as a weapon has vanished, and the only person who can trace it is a thief named Nyah Hall (Thandiwe Newton), who was once involved with the man who stole it. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) must get close to her and pull her into his mission to reach Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott) before the virus reaches buyers worldwide. If Ambrose succeeds, the weapon spreads beyond anyone's control.
