“Two brave men battle each other... and paradise burns”

A boy named Altaaf (Hrithik Roshan) is the only one left alive after a police raid in Kashmir wipes out his family, and the officer who led it, Inayat Khan (Sanjay Dutt), takes him in as his own. Vidhu Vinod Chopra raises Altaaf in a house shadowed by what the older man has done, with the truth waiting to be found. The film is about how a child of that violence carries it, and whether the man who caused it can ever make up for it.
