Mississippi Masala

“Passion. Tradition. Mix it up.”

Years after her family was forced out of Uganda, Mina (Sarita Choudhury) is helping run a motel in rural Mississippi alongside her parents, Jay (Roshan Seth) and Kinnu (Sharmila Tagore). Mira Nair sets her among the Indian motel owners and the Black community around them, two groups that keep their distance. Then Mina meets Demetrius (Denzel Washington), a carpet cleaner, and the kind of attention she has never been allowed starts to cost her.
