A Korean family lives in a house where the father (Cho Jae-hyun) and the mother (Lee Na-ra) have stopped speaking, and the son (Seo Young-joo) grows up watching the hatred pass between them. Kim Ki-duk made the film with no spoken dialogue, no subtitles and no intertitles, so the family communicates through vocables and long, fixed stares. The mother's hatred of her husband takes a terrible turn, and the silence in the house goes on.
