Monsieur Hulot (Jacques Tati) is a gentle, bumbling man who loves his top-floor apartment in a grimy corner of the city. His sister's family has moved to a sleek modern house in the suburbs, and Hulot only visits to steal away his young nephew. Tati frames the Arpels' house in still, orderly shots, and the boy is happiest with the uncle his parents keep trying to fix.
